The First verses revealed in the Qur’an to permit fighting are “Permission [to take up arms] has been given to those who are being fought, because they have been wronged. And indeed, Allah is Able to give them victory. [They are] those who have been driven unjustly from their homes – only because they say, “Our Lord is Allah.” And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. And Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.” These two verses provide a clear proof that fighting in Islam is a matter of helping the oppressed and the wronged in order to ensure a secure life for them. Such a right can never be denied or criminalized.
